Would You Pay For A Wordpress Theme?
Yes I know, you can get tons of it for free. I have my own collection of turnkey WordPress themes and simple free WordPress themes you can download and use on your blogs. But I also sell a few customized non-unique themes through the Wordpress Adsense System and most people who’ve bought it absolutely love it.
A year ago WordPress developers would scoff and curse at the idea of charging for a theme, but today you have tons of them selling premium themes, magazine style themes, and even customized version of free themes. Obviously, something has changed..
To get the extra edge for your blog, to make it stand out from the ever growing blogosphere and brand yourself, and if you have the budget – would you pay?

Slightly on/off topic but what are the latest opinions on sponsored themes i bought a custom theme with resale rights but have decided not to use it! Would you offer it as a prize and add your link to the footer or should i add a link in my footer and just offer it for free download to get link’s? Or as this post implies would you sell it
I’m in the business of Scuba Diving so do you have different opinions if I use this way for promotion than say if it was a make money online blog?
I wouldn’t pay for something I was going to use myself but for client work I might be inclined to buy something that did the job and alter it to make it unique.
I certainly would and have for my own main blog. I see the value of branding and paying for a unique theme is essential to do this right.
I we run a business, then we mustn’t be afraid to invest into it and a unique design is part of a business.
I agree with monika. If you’re in a business, sometimes you have to spend money to make money. If you can spend a little to make your site standout, that’s money well spent. I’ve been using Shifter for a while and feel like I have an advantage over my competitors. Joomla has been doing paid themes for years so this is nothing new.
$999.95 for a developer license? Sorry but it think the guys who did Shifter are “shifting” in a world of their own. I don’t see how the theme is any different from other themes. They should do a better job at selling it.
Gobala, it’s funny you say that. I saw shifter yesterday while cruising the net and was impressed by the functionality of it all. Maybe I didn’t see the real thing but I actually liked the fact that one can just shift things around without having to touch code.
On the downside of it all it isn’t beneficial to help us learn since we will just take the slack approach to coding I guess.

Yes, I was emphasizing on the developer license. Plus obviously this would not be for newbies, since there’s an additional support option you can subscribe to. It may be cool, but in my experience the more complex it is the harder it eventually gets for you to actually use it. Maybe I’ll try getting it in the next few days as an experiment.
I would buy a theme if I didn’t know how to make them myself
I think when you want to stand out, having a great theme that’s customized to your needs is essential. And 1,000 dollars is WAY too much to spend on a theme. I know this one place where you can get them for $375.00
