Wordpress.com Paid Upgrades

One new feature I just discovered on Wordpress.com hosted blogs – the ability to pay and get your account upgraded.

How it works is that you’ll buy Credits in denominations of $15 and $25, and you can use this credit to upgrade and enhance your blog. Currently, htere’s only an option of getting Custom CSS that allows you to customize any pre-loaded themes in Wordpress. You’ll need to do the customization yourself, of course!

The $15 is just access to edit your CSS, not the service.

This shows a significant move by the developers of Wordpress to monetize their system. I also suspect that the bulk of attention is shifting towards Wordpress.com instead of the self-hosted version of Wordpress.
Payments are made via Paypal and are non-refundable.
