Why Square Banner Advertising Does Really Well
You must have observed this thing on many big blogs like TechCrunch or JohnChow. They all use a new trend of banner advertising, the square banner which is usually 125 x 125 pixels or 120 x 120 pixels.
This advertising trend is everywhere and is also giving people a lot success. A single 125 x 125 pixels square banner ad space on TechCrunch costs some $25,000. JohnChow’s rate of this 125 x 125 pixels advertisement space is for $500. Even advertisers are interested a lot in buying ad spaces of this type. But why?
The reason is a bit kinky but still amazing. It is because of many things. It gives the advertiser and the blogger both an opportunity of double hand clapping strategy. The advertiser get more exposure and the publisher gets more money.
Exposure: Imagine a 125 x 125 pixels ad banner of your blog’s sidebar top. Whenever a visitor comes, his first attention goes to that banner. This gives the banner a lot exposure. It is highly acceptable that these ad spaces get most of the visitors attention.
Cleanliness: A simple small box will not clutter your blog, right? Yes, it will not. Using this advertising space idea can make your blog look more professional and less cluttered whereas those long banners lying everywhere can make it look dull.
Compatibility: Most themes are not compatible with long banner ads or leader board ads, but almost every theme is compatible with square banner ads. This makes the idea more unique and friendly.
Professional: Because this ad style is much cleaner, has a lot of exposure and is very compatible, then for sure it will ad a tag of professionalism to your blog. Plus since this ad trend is popular, it looks a lot more professional to a new visitor of your blog.
If you are not accepting this ad trend on your blog, then do it now. This can bring a lot more advertisers to your blog and make you earn more money blogging!

One thing I wanted to know all of such ad formats are usually referrals. I find most of these ads on every other site I happen to visit. If suppose I use them on my site, what surety do I have that they bring in revenue, when people might have already clicked them on other site.
Its like wasting up my blog space. Adsense works well because of its revenue generation based on clicks and impression. Are there such affiliates which provide this?
I love these little units… and when combined with some sort of adserver software to randomise displays and track clicks, they should provide a blog owner with good additional opportunities to make money…
OR… make your own graphics and promote your own sites/products OR promote affiliate products through Clickbank etc as I have done here on my new Internet Marketing giveaway blog…
Note – I use an ancient cgi-based ad program to show those ads as I’m not proficient with php… but it works well well as the ads are called by javascript placed in various spots in my theme.
nitinpai… look for pay-per-click affiliate programs through clixgalore or commission junction… there are heaps of them there! And don’t worry about people and what they do on other sites… chances are pretty good they haven’t seen YOUR ads before!

You’re right, most blogs have a lot of 250 square ads seemingly from advertisers, but mostly they are affiliate banners. That’s just another way of using it, and don’t worry about people clicking it on somewhere else because the affiliate program only considers which banner (affiliate cookie) they clicked on LAST before making a purchase.

I found that visitors have become blind to these nice, neat, pretty looking 125×125 button ads. When I was using them I had a CTR of 0% on them. Switching to large banner ads, with the same offers being displayed, resulted in a 18% CTR.
18% CTR is way too high for Pay Per Click, let alone banner ads which typically have a sub 1% CTR. Are you sure of your data? As an advertiser I would never buy banner ads, but heck there are a lot of website owners with a lot of cash to spend so you may as well take advantage of it and sell banner ads on your blog.

I’m trying to figure out how to make one without buying an expensive program to do so. hmmm…..
