Test Drive Your Themes With This Plugin

March 31, 2008 | By Monika Mundell | Comments Off

This is a Plugin I could have done with ages ago. Instead of having to stuff around with a second blog setup or a local WordPress copy, the Theme Test Drive WordPress Plugin allows bloggers to test drive any theme safely as an administrator without the awareness of our readers.

While your readers are still seeing and using the current theme you have showing on your blog, you can test to your heart’s content with the Theme Test Drive WordPress Plugin in the back office.

This will enable you to upload any theme to your WordPress admin and test drive while making changes. Once you are happy with what you see, you do the switch over and your new theme will take center stage.

Installation of Theme Test Drive WordPress Plugin

  • Upload the Plugin folder to your /wp-content/plugins/ folder
  • Activate the Plugin by going to Dashboard – Plugins
  • Select the theme you want to test drive on the Options page

Warning: It seems that the WP-Cache Plugin might interfere with the functionality of this Plugin, so while using it it is advisable to disable WP-Cache.

You can download the latest version from here.

I also tried to see whether this Plugin is compatible with the latest WordPress software, but unfortunately there is no mention of it on the official WordPress page.

    Hi Gobala,

Thanks for the great tip. It sure saves me loads of time. I also have to sneakily change the theme, take a quick look and then revert things back asap. I also had to do it in the wee hours where i get the least traffic.

    Well, not anymore! Thanks again!

    Regards,
    Seeni
