600 Free Directories to Submit Your Blog To

I’ve compiled a list (as promised) of 605+ web directories that accept free submission, to be used manually or with the Directory Submitter software.

You can download it here in ZIP and use it on your blog / HTML page:

Although the Directory Submitter software allows up to 2,000+ directories, it took some time to weed out the paid-only directories and all the dysfunctional / spam directories in the software. As an end result, I found that there are only 600 or so free directories worth exchanging links with. Even that took a massive effort to actually visit each directory’s linkback page, copy the codes, and put it in a single file. By some miracle, we finally got it done.

I will update this list from time to time but please note the following when using this list with Directory Submitter:

There are some directories in the software that will list your site for a low payment of $5 – $10, and you should strongly consider paying a little to get into these directories. These are not listed here as they don’t require a link back from you
There are some free directories that don’t specifically require a link bank – these aren’t included here either.
The easiest way to implement directory submission to these 600+ directories is to download the ZIP file here, copy the HTML codes and paste them into your own Wordpress blog, and publish it as a page or a post. Then, use the Directory Submitter software to submit your site and when asked for the reciprocal links page, just enter the URL of your blog post / page.
All the directories below are using anchor texts to link bank, as per the requirement of the individual directories. Therefore, you may find that some of them have exceptionally long titles (or dubious ones) that we didn’t edit to make it compliant with the linkback requirements.
Directory Submitter updates it’s list of directories constantly. Some directories may disappear from their listing and new one may be added, these you’ll have to modify yourself.
Please note that you can also use this with the free version of the software which has only 300+ directories, but upgrade to Gold for a bigger list of directories.
The easiest way to do this with the software is to:
1. Enter all your site details, a few different anchor texts and descriptions
2. Sort the columns so you can start with the free directories
3. Go through the entire list submitting your blog, ignoring the ones that tell you they cant find your link
4. When you’re done with the list, you can see which ones you’ve submitted to and you can focus on the rest
Sometimes, depending on how you set-up Wordpress (for example if you are using pretty permalinks) some directories may not recognize the URL for linkback. If this is the case. I’d recommend you just upload the raw html file attached here into your server and name is “resources.html” or “directories.html” or whatever you want, and use the URL yourdomain.com/directories.html as the linkback URL

Before you do this, you may want to test the directory submission method by listing your site in our Wordpress Blog Directory first (Wordpress sites only).

Thanks for the file, Gobala – it will save a lot of time. I like the use of the podcast plugin to deal with that. Very neat.
