You can work it backwards, but most niche marketers don't look for things they know well, they look for traffic as traffic with the right Google placement will bring sales with the perfect match of monetizing. It just happens that my niche is very hard to crack but I'm working on it. It is often trial and error though. Other niche sites are already making money from the start and I picked them with research, not with picking a topic upfront. :-) @ Dave: I agree partially with you. But if you didn't attain success on a site that can _make_money_ it's just wheel spinning at the starting line. Creates alot of noise and smoke while someone else wins the race. My view is, work backward. Chose something that youcna make money with .. and _then_ look for keywords that will drive people to the money and then do the SEO, social networks, etc. that will drive the people. "retailing" .. which is what pro blogging and affilaite sites really are about has many hurdles, but the one that can not be overcome if having nothing to sell.
