Do You Donate To WordPress Plugin Developers?

WordPress plugin developers are the most disadvantaged of the lot.

Unlike WordPress theme developers who now have a huge market to sell premium themes that more than 50% of bloggers are willing to pay for, our survey of paid plugins revealed the opposite. Most bloggers would not pay for a WordPress plugin, even if it’s good.

That means that they have to continue accepting donations as a means to cover their cost, while people like me and you use their WordPress plugins for free and improve our own business. The world isn’t always fair to everyone.

Take our survey below, and tell us if you have ever donated to a WordPress plugin developer:

Good Karma Coming Your Way

That being said, if you’d like some good karma, here are a list of the most popular WordPress plugins where you can donate to the developer. Feel free to donate any amount even if it’s just $5 to these guys, who have gone out of their way to make blogging easier for all of us, and expect nothing in return.

If you want to add someone to this list, please submit a comment below with a link to the page. I can only add it to this list if there is an active “Donate” button or Paypal Donate button.

(Suggestion to plugin developers: Offer to link back to the Top 10 monthly donors on your blog and your donation buttons will see more action)

Thank you for this post, Gobala! People always ask for new features, support and bug fixes — but no one ever bothers to donate a buck. Counting all together, I have spent literally months to develop my plugins. Guess how much I got donated? Not a single Cent! :-( Even though I don’t do it for the money, it would be nice to receive some recognition for the work.

I didn’t ask for support, but I haven’t donated either considering i use your plugin on almost all my blogs. So you’ll be the first guy I personally donate to since the middle of last year :)

Glad you like the plugin! I also apprechiate your (easywordpress.com’s) coverage and spreading the word about WordPress plugins.

And — thank you very much for the donation! :-) Btw, I just read your suggestion of posting a link to the latest donors on the plugin’s page. This is indeed a good idea, and I’m going to implement it.

    Manual trackback ;)

[...] Your website has cool stuff and encourages people to donate for it, but nobody ever gives a penny? Give them something that they get only for a donation, e.g. a link on your website. However, maintaining a link list is tedious, and it’s not really appealing. Therefore, we are proud to present the donations cloud (similar to a tag cloud) concept along with an easy to use WordPress plugin. [...]
