How to Create an Autopilot Blog That Works

Over the past 2 years, I have basically thought 3 blogging methods: authority blogging, niche blogging, and autopilot blogging. These methods apply to 3 main monetization methods; Google AdSense, affiliate marketing, and sponsored blogging.

The subject of “autopilot” blogging is perhaps the most controversial, yet the most intriguing. Imagine if you can spend one hour to set-up a blog, and continue to get traffic and income from that blog for the next 2 years without every touching it.

A lot of people ask me if it’s worth their time creating an automated blog- my answer is “It depends”.

Trying to use RSS to Blog, WP-O-Matic or other similar syndication services gets you nothing but duplicate content, resentment and a lingering headache. Needless to say, that type of autoblogging just doesn’t work anymore. So what does?

Today, you can (if you know how) get content that is 30% – 100% unique at zero cost. Yes, that’s totally unique content without getting a writer. If your content is unique then your chances of making money from your blog, especially via Google AdSense or affiliate programs, becomes significantly better.

So here’s how I recommend you build an autopilot blog today..

Step 1: Sign-Up With Article Marketing Automation for Content

I’ve blogged about Article Marketing Automation before, but what I didn’t stress in my earlier post is how easy it is to get free content in a variety of topics that are at least 30% unique.

You can choose to automatically accept any article that is more than 30% unique, or you can choose to manually approve articles before publishing them to your blog. In fact, I find that most of the users in AMA settle for nothing less than a 100% rewritten article. Perhaps that’s what you should do to, even if it means you’ll be getting lesser free content.

Set-up niche WordPress blogs and choose to receive only related content, and you may also want to use some AdSense-ready WordPress themes to make the monetization part even more automated.

Step 2: Start a 3-Way Links Campaign

Once your site has already been indexed by Google (at least 2 pages), you should sign-up for 3-Way Links and submit your site. I’ve reviewed 3-Way Links before and till today I find it to be one of the best tools to build one-way links to your blogs automatically.

Step 3: Write Articles and Blog Posts for Links

You can do this through Article Marketing Automation or other tools like 1 Way Links or even the FirePow system.

All these systems work with some sort of “article spinning” tool that spawns hundred of unique variations based on your original article. The trick is to use the article re-writing tool at Article Marketing Automation and then modifying the same article for use in the other two networks.

The AMA version is much simpler to use and it really drives you to create truly unique versions since it focuses on re-writing entire sentences. If you find it too tedious to do this yourself you can outsource your project online for a reasonable price.

Step 4: More Content More Backlinks

I’ve written about 35 ways to get links, and you may want to read through that article again to get some ideas on building more incoming links to your blog. If you don’t mind mixing up unique articles with non-unique ones, you should also take a look at the automatic article posting plugin which works wonderfully on WordPress.

Either way, you must make sure you automate content and link building as much as possible. As opposed to other blogging models like authority blogging or niche blogging, you simple cannot spend too much time on an individual blog.

Although the social bookmarking hype has sort of died down since Facebook and Twitter started to hog the limelight, it’s still as useful today as it was before. Using a plugin like Auto Social Poster you can automatically submit all your blog posts to an “x” number of random social bookmarking sites automatically. It works beautifully.

Step 5: Start More New Blogs

Indeed, the most crucial part about auto-pilot blogging is the continuous creation of new blogs. However, you can only do this if you have successfully managed to automate the blogs, which means you no longer work on them yet the content and links keep coming in.

However, as you create more and more blogs, it become rather difficult to manage them all. I recommend you create them by “batches” of 3-5 sites at the same time, using the same themes and plugins whenever possible. Here’s where some mass-blogging tools like WP Blaster or WP Cloner comes in handy.

A more robust blog management system like FirePow is ideal but you may not want to go that far if you have your own system or way of doing things.

I would want to go by the “It depends” answer when it comes to automatic blogging. I am a firm believer of the fact that “anything that turns automatic is harmful to the original”. Blogging has an essence and the entire essence is lost when blogging becomes automatic.
I also feel that automatic blogging can never be a money spinner for a lifetime. Since the articles used are free articles available on the internet it is duplicate content that your automatic blog delivers. Gradually your blog will drop off search engines and traffic will also start to fade out because readers will get to know that the objective of the blog is only to make money. Hence I prefer keeping myself miles away from automatic blogging.

What you write about auto blogging makes all the sense in the world. You want you site full of fresh content to keep you readers interested. What auto blogging allows a marketer to do: own more of the internet. The more you own, the more you are going to earn.

If done correctly, auto blogging allows you develop multiple sources of income with the same business plan.

    Cheers

Gobala… I’m playing devil’s advocate here by asking “why do most people want to go the lazy route?”

According to your poll on this page, over 1/3 of people would prefer to set up an autopilot site, instead of either a niche or authority site.

Have they forgotten that the word “WORK” is actually necessary for anything that is even mildly successful?

Why so so many people think that you can get rich “easily” by generating thousands of pages of this auto content “pollution”? And they’ll populate them with adsense ads that will only ever earn 2cents a day because they will NEVER get any real traffic to their hundreds of sites!

Look… if you want to create GOOD CONTENT, something that you’d be proud of, which will serve you well for the long term, and help you build a real “business” online… then forget these “lazy” ways of doing it!

As a veteran content developer/publisher and LONG time Adsense earner, I reluctantly admit that I recently crossed to the dark side, using both UAW (Unique Article Wizard) and a variation of AMA called My Article Network, and tried to “auto” plug their articles into several of my sites…

Of the 3000+ articles these places have sent to me for publication in the last two months, I have accepted very, very few.

A LOT of the articles I killed were nothing more than poor attempts at getting people to click on affiliate links for products which I could promote and earn a future income for MYSELF if I could just be bothered writing a similar article in the first place… with NO worries about any duplicate content penalty or spinning issues!

There were also multiple submissions of the same/similar article by one author using multiple pen names… so they are even spamming the distribution system! Great!

It would be VERY foolish to auto-approve publication of any article you receive through auto-blogging… but now, because they require moderation, it’s not so “auto” anymore is it?

I have spent MORE time reading through crap and deleting them than perhaps I may have spent writing my own original content.

Reading these largely pathetic attempts at article marketing has certainly upset me to see so many supposed “authors” engaging in what is a very dubious form of marketing, albeit with the right intentions.

    The problem is threefold…

One is the calibre of the author in the first place, and their ability to tell a good story, using proper English!

Next… the qualifications of the author to talk about the topic. For example, a recent article (which featured a video as well) I rejected because the author was discussing how to install ASKimet into a WordPress blog… Look… if the guy can’t even get the basic pronunciation of Akismet right… where is his credibility? And what does that do to your reputation if you publish that type of article on YOUR site?

The third is the spinning feature! So many articles come in that have been spun to the tune of 200-300% or even more! Can you imagine how much sense these make, especially when authored by someone who really can’t write properly???

Sorry, but any site that publishes hundreds (or potentially thousands) of pages of that sort of useless drivel made for adsense, is NOT something I would be proud to put my name to!

You are NOT building a BUSINESS by doing this sort of thing… you’re building a big headache which IS going to turn around and bite you later on down the track, when Google works out a way of deciding which sites are worth indexing and reporting in the SERPS…

Oh wait! Google already knows that!

Now if only they can work out which sites DESERVE to earn money from displaying adsense ads, so we can get rid of a lot of the information pollution out there!

Sorry… but the “lazy” way is not necessarily the “best” way!

Stick with “borrowing” articles from recognised article directories which have minimum publication standards… or hey, write your own original content – it’s not that hard!

Rant over – thanks for allowing me to do it here :)

    Cheers

I agree with you on all your points Stephen. Of course I would automate fully if I felt it was a viable long term solution but ity’s not. I think a combination of very careful and specific, quality automation and some unique content may be the best way forward.

I’m also keen to see how video marketing will work for backlinks and traffic.

    Dear Gopal,
I am new to internet money making ideas. I understand it is possible to make money by blogging picking clues from Google hot trends daily. While there are number of ways to make money through internet, I choosed blogging becz it needs little tricks to create blogs. Me like people cant think about article marketing or email marketing becz English is not our fist language.
My question is where should I start if I want to become a good blogger.

    Another great article Gobala.

You really have put together an awesome selection of tools that the beginner on through expert webmaster can find handy.

I also believe that the hybrid approach is the best balance for a commercial entity. If it is a hobby, then original is quite possible due to the small amount of time you could spend in comparison.

Hi Gobala, I always enjoy the info you provide as it’s tightly themed, relevent and on topic for my business. This group of posts got me wondering about adding non unique articles and then commenting on the article to provide unique content.

I know its not auto pilot but it may be a useful idea to at least partially implement.

The idea is great, but i don’t think the autoblog works that efficient as blogging by yourself.
