Chitika Related Products Units or RPU

I just came across Chitika’s “Related Products Units” and wondered when they added that function to their service.

Anyways, from what I can see it’s text-based contextual links that look like this:

Chitika

I think it looks a lot like the Related Posts plugin for Wordpress, but since I have not used it I can’t really tell you more. However, here’s what the other bloggers say:

From Modern SEO:

Unlike the current Chitika Advertisements where the publisher supplies a keyword for each Chitika Advertisement box, the RPU BETA Advertisements will scan a post for keywords related to a common product like “iPod” or “PlayStation” and pull up an advertisement related to those keywords.

From ProBlogger:

How do they perform? At a glance – very very well. They integrate nicely into a site and as a result CTR is good. The cost per click amount is 50-70% lower than eMiniMall ads for some reason so that’s a downer and they do cannibalize from other ads on your page a little – but for the increase in income that they’ve brought in has outweighed the decrease in other ads on the page.

However, not everyone can apply for this. According to Chitika here’s the conditions:

  • You must be a current Chitika publisher who has made at least $100.
  • OR: Your site or blog must receive atleast 50,000 page views per month
