Bickering aside, to me it would seem that this could be used to provide additional resources for site visitors. What would be wrong with pointing visitors to a gardening site to a page/subdomain of videos about gardening?

No problem, I edited the codes to highlight the correct lines of text.

So basically the problem here is with duplicate content, either text / video it’s the same to Google.

All I can say is if you’re worried Google will come after you, then by all means don’t try it.

There are a lot of duplicate content sites / syndication sites that run Google Adsense, and I have some too which encounter no problem.

But if you really want to be cautious, then you should not do these kind of stuff.

It’s a grey area, so do it if you want.

As promised… here’s the response from Adsense Support (bolding added by me):

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for your note. I appreciate your efforts to remain in line with our policies.

In addition to the YouTube policies that you’ve noticed, I think you should read over the following:

Publishers may not place Google ads on pages that violate Google’s webmaster quality guidelines (
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769#quality
). While we’ve included the following excerpts from these guidelines, we recommend that you take the time to review them in their entirety.

* Make pages for users, not for search engines.
* Don’t employ cloaking or sneaky redirects.
* Don’t load pages with irrelevant words.
* Don’t create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.
* Don’t participate in link schemes designed to increase your site’s ranking or PageRank.
* Avoid “doorway” pages created just for search engines, or other “cookie cutter” approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.
* Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you’d feel comfortable explaining what you’ve done to a website that competes with you. Another useful test is to ask, “Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn’t exist?”
* If your site participates in an affiliate program, make sure that your site adds value. Provide unique and relevant content that gives users a reason to visit your site first.

I hope that outlining the policy items above helps to answer your question.

Considering that they referenced several sections of Google’s webmaster quality guidelines in the response, I believe my earlier “assumption” was pretty close to spot on.

Use such programs if you want to put your Adsense earnings at risk.

And if you sell them without warning customers of the risk… well… tch tch!

Sorry if I might have suggested that there could be a potential problem with this type of crap scraper site that really doesn’t add anything other than even more information pollution. As a video version of the older “made for adsense” content sites… it’s not the type of product that serious business builder’s would look at implementing.

YouTube’s TOS refers to “advertising”… this script uses Adsense… OK – so this “misguided” soul put 2+2 together and came up with a vague (but still fairly valid) “possibility” that no-one should just dismiss so casually, especially the owner of a highly popular Internet resource who is actually promoting the stuff!

Did YOU ask Adsense support if I was wrong BEFORE you dismissed my comment so bluntly?

Hmmm… maybe a “We should check into this and clarify the situation” might have been a more appropriate early response, as I’m sure you would hate anyone to be put at any sort of legal or financial risk by using a dodgey product that you sold them!

So, to clear the issue up… I’ve specifically asked Adsense support the question, and will let you know their response as soon as I have it.

Despite all of that, such sites are STILL in breach of YouTube’s TOS because the sole intention of them – according to the sales letter – is to make money from advertising.

Again, I might be speaking out of my hat here since (thankfully) I don’t have any direct experience of what action YouTube might take against you… and I don’t want to find out either

The link you gave goes to YouTube’s Terms of Use, not Adsense, and even that page does not mention anything about Adsense.

Just because Google owns both you can’t just assume things – it’s a different story if you referred me to Google Adsense’s TOS.

Plus your post is vague and not based on any of your own experience so I have to dismiss your comment as “misguided”

There will be no “repeating” users to websites like these. The main purpose is not to build a serious website for branding, but rather to capitalize on whatever traffic you get or used to get.
